Independent Rail Inspections and Assessments

We operate with the simple goal that your assets be fit-for-purpose, with no surprises, at minimal cost.

Our people are all qualified and experienced rail inspection and maintenance management personnel, having previously worked in superintendent, area manager and infrastructure maintainer roles in various mainline railways across Australia. This experience qualifies them to identify problems, assess issues and provide maintenance or renewal recommendations.

The Rail Safety National Law (RSNL) requires that owners and operators of private railways have adequate systems and procedures in place to ensure that rail safety risks are being managed ‘so far as is reasonably practicable’ (SFAIRP). Lycopodium can assist you to meet these obligations by:

  • Identifying current and potential risks within railway operations
  • Managing risks by ensuring appropriate priority
  • Certifying that track has been inspected, defects have been assessed and that the track is safe for rail operations

Lycopodium has developed our own Inspection and Assessment Manual (IAM), specifically tailored for private railways. It contains the inspection and assessment procedures, initial risk assessment/prioritisation of defects, maintenance intervention limits and response requirements for private rail infrastructure.
