Ekati Expansion Project

Americas, Canada
The Ekati Diamond Mine is Canada’s first surface and underground diamond mine, which began production in October 1998.

The mine site is located in the Lac de Gras region of Canada’s Northwest Territories, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife, the capital, only city, and largest community in the Northwest Territories.

Awarded in June 2019, Lycopodium provided engineering services for the Ekati Expansion Project, to increase the current operational throughput of 11,000 tpd (4 Mtpa) to 13,700 tpd (5 Mtpa) for the treatment of the high tonnage (48 Mt), small diamonds from the Jay kimberlite pipe.

The expansion encompasses the addition of Module B of the plant, which includes secondary crushing, primary scrubbing and sizing, primary and secondary degrit, desand, and related services.

Lycopodium’s detailed engineering scope was completed on schedule and within budget.
