Nammuldi – Rail Extension Civil Works

Australia, WA
The Rio Tinto (RTIO) $2 Billion dollar Nammuldi Below Water Table Project is located approximately 60 km north-west of Tom Price within the West Pilbara region of Western Australia. The Lycopodium rail team delivered detailed design and documentation of the rail extension civil works to the mine.

Nammuldi’s annual Iron Ore production target was 16 Mtpa of Saleable Ore Product (SOP).

Lycopodium was engaged to deliver the preliminary Engineering Study and the Definitive Study. Full EPCM delivery of the project was delivered under a JV Partnership between Lycopodium and URS.

As part of the complete delivery of the Nammuldi Project, Lycopodium rail team delivered detailed design and documentation of the rail extension civil works to the Mine between 2012 and 2013.
The process included the development of safety procedures to compliment Rail Safeworking for the construction and safe operation of a temporary rail crossing.

During the study phases Lycopodium was responsible for the full design scope:

  • Mine, process plant, track and civil.

During the implementation, as part of Pilbara EPCM, Lycopodium Infrastructure delivered:

  • Heavy vehicle dual-rail overpass conceptual design
  • Interface management between the Contractor, RTIO Operations, RTIO rail maintenance and RTIO rail operations
