Lycopodium provided engineering design to Renex for a 70,000t/year Integrated Waste Treatment and Resource Recovery facility in Victoria.

The process includes indirect drying of soil, pyrolysis, 7MW combustor and gas cleaning plant. The pyrolysis system that was selected is based on sophisticated European thermal desorption technology comprising of an indirectly heated rotary kiln. The waste materials are mixed to provide sufficient energy to fuel the plant without the need for auxiliary fuel. This “waste-to-energy” principle ensures the sustainability of the plant’s operation and minimises its greenhouse gas emissions.

Lycopodium’s scope for the Greenfield project included:

  • Scoping and capital cost estimate study
  • Technology review
  • Project Risk review
  • Detailed design for waste soil sizing and crushing circuit
  • Detailed design for soil and waste feed to the treatment plant
  • Structural mechanical piping and insulation works
  • Electrical design review and installation co-ordination for technology provider scope
  • Balance of plant electrical and instrumentation works
  • Commissioning planning and co-ordination
  • Performance testing
